Father & son collaboration, Richard and Ab Rogers commissioned Xenia Moseley to produce a ladder  to “help explore the lost corners of a room”. When asked about their wish, Ab Rogers said, ‘I want to design a ladder because they are special in many ways and often overlooked as ordinary. They deserve to be elevated by thoughtful design. As an object a ladder offers an exciting way to move; it helps you rise to a new place, to get somewhere you cannot otherwise reach and see a familiar space in a different light. It is a diagram of its structure, legible, able to be read like a book. It is a sensitive object, able to borrow structure - leaning on the wall - and to expose it (the wall and mass of a structure.)’

Xenia’s design initially seemed improbable and there was disbelief in the workshop that it couldn’t possibly stand up but an initial basic mock-up proved it was possible.

The major making challenge was in bending, tapering and fanning out of the rails which were made from red oak which had been steam bent for three hours. The rails were also challenging with each rail being unique and joining to a curved surface.  There were several making attempts and design rationalisation before the final design was made which includes a leather slung seat and a folding table.
