Winner of the AJ Woman Architect of the Year Award, Alison Brooks, commissioned British designer, Felix de Pass to make her a set of  kitchen stools as she had “never been able to find a really great kitchen stool that is the right height for a kitchen counter and that is quiet, clever, adjustable and beautiful.’

Alison and Felix chose to make the stools in American cherry, a timber that is in abundance due to it falling out of fashion.  Alison loves its burnt umber colour and has an emotional connection to it as it reminds her of her mother's collection of early Canadian/antique furniture.

The main making challenge for the stools was in the shaping and jointing of the legs.  The cherry was steam bent to give the bend and the angles were spindle moulded both internally and externally to give a three way mitred connection. The simply turned disk seat and addition of  a steel foot ring complete this beautiful design.
