The 742 All Purpose Desk was first designed by Jens Risom in 1968. Originally made with a black vinyl top, we've updated it with leather in a choice of colours to brighten up your workspace.  It's neat size, and drawer that is large enough to store a laptop, makes it a versatile  and useful piece.  We make the 742 in oak and walnut with an oil finish.   We have chosen our favourite leather colours but  if you would prefer your own choice of leather to add a touch of individuality, please call us or make an enquiry below.

Authenticity

Each piece of furniture we sell has a mark in the form of a discreetly fixed polished pewter disk that shows that it is an authentic Benchmark original. This is individually numbered and a record of the piece and purchaser is kept in our register.

Peace of Mind

We take pride in all our goods being made to exceptional standards but because things sometimes go wrong, our returns policy states that where a damaged or faulty piece of furniture is delivered, we will do our utmost to rectify the error as quickly as possible. If you are unhappy with your purchase for other reasons, let us know within seven days and we will guarantee a refund providing the item is returned in "as new condition" within 14 days. Unfortunately we are unable to refund shipping, handling or insurance charges, except of course in the case of any errors on our part. Bespoke pieces made to special order cannot be refunded, unless there is a fault with the product.

We are confident that our furniture will stand the test of time and offer a five year guarantee against defective workmanship and materials. However, please note that most of our furniture is made of solid timber, and you should expect it to move slightly in damp or overly dry conditions.

Please note that for pieces that are not made by Benchmark, such as Vienna Chairs and Carl Hansen Chairs, we are only able to offer a one year guarantee against defective workmanship.

If you would like to chat through the timber, finishes or upholstery options or would like to see samples before you order, please call us on 01488 608020 or e-mail sales@benchmarkfurniture.com

Care guides

Care instructions for timber & leather

Timber

We use Osmo Polyx Oil, a hard wax oil, which keeps the timber looking and feeling as natural as possible whilst providing a level of protection against dirt. The wax will be fully hardened after 4 weeks.  Particular care should be taken in the first few weeks after delivery.  To clean, simply wipe the surface with a damp cloth and then remove any moisture with a dry cloth.

Occasionally spills may penetrate the oil and you may need to re-oil.  Make sure the area is dry. Lightly sand the stain along the grain with a fine grade sandpaper until you can no longer see the mark.  You will be removing a thin layer of the wax oil.  Blend in the edges of the stain by lightly sanding the surrounding area.  Apply a thin layer of Osmo Polyx oil (two teaspoons of oil should be enough to cover 1m2) to the sanded area on a soft cloth.  Concentrate on the sanded area and then blend in the edges by wiping the cloth across the surrounding area.  You may need to reapply the oil after 2 hours to provide a match with the existing finish.

Dents and scratches may be sanded out with sandpaper or steamed with heat from an iron applied on top of a damp cloth.  You will notice that it now feels slightly rough where the grain has come out.  Use fine grade sandpaper to lightly sand and ‘de-nib’ the grain.  The sanded area can then be treated as above.

Leather

Avoid using chemical polishes or soap.  Simply wipe with a damp cloth using a mild detergent such as washing up liquid and buff with a clean dry cloth.

If you would like any further information or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call us on 01488 608020 or e-mail sales@benchmarkfurniture.com
