Great legs!

The original Mrs Beeton was more renowned for her cookbooks than her legs but our Mrs Beeton (or Mrs B as we prefer to call her) has always had a following for her shapely pins.  Reminiscent of a traditional farmhouse table, the clean lines and gentle curves make her a contemporary classic.

Authenticity

Each piece of furniture we sell has a mark in the form of a discreetly fixed polished pewter disk that shows that it is an authentic Benchmark original. This is individually numbered and a record of the piece and purchaser is kept in our register.

Peace of Mind

We take pride in all our goods being made to exceptional standards but because things sometimes go wrong, our returns policy states that where a damaged or faulty piece of furniture is delivered, we will do our utmost to rectify the error as quickly as possible. If you are unhappy with your purchase for other reasons, let us know within seven days and we will guarantee a refund providing the item is returned in "as new condition" within 14 days. Unfortunately we are unable to refund shipping, handling or insurance charges, except of course in the case of any errors on our part. Bespoke pieces made to special order cannot be refunded, unless there is a fault with the product.

We are confident that our furniture will stand the test of time and offer a five year guarantee against defective workmanship and materials. However, please note that most of our furniture is made of solid timber, and you should expect it to move slightly in damp or overly dry conditions.

Please note that for pieces that are not made by Benchmark, such as Vienna Chairs and Carl Hansen Chairs, we are only able to offer a one year guarantee against defective workmanship.

If you would like to chat through the timber, finishes or upholstery options or would like to see samples before you order, please call us on 01488 608020 or e-mail sales@benchmarkfurniture.com

Care guides

Care instructions for raw and oiled tables

Our furniture is very easy to look after, and with a little care, will continue to look beautiful for future generations.  We like to keep wood looking and feeling as natural as possible so we firmly recommend an untreated or raw table top which we believe is the most family friendly finish and is easy to look after. However, we understand that sometimes our customers prefer a level of protection from everyday spills and stains and so we offer the option of a hard wax oil finish.

Caring for a raw/untreated surface

It is intended that the table top is treated as a scrubbed surface.  To clean the top on a daily basis simply wipe with a damp cloth. To remove more stubborn stains we recommend that you use a green scouring pad and white Cif cream cleaner. Use a little hot water and simply scrub the whole top as necessary, working with the grain. The first few times that this is done, the water will raise the grain and leave a slightly rough feel to the timber. This will only persist for the first few scrubbings.

Damp, untreated, steel items will react with the timber and can leave a dark stain. This stain can be removed with a mild solution of Oxalic Acid, available from most chemists.  Any scratches or surface damage can be easily removed by sanding the surface.  Dents may be steamed out using an iron applied on top of a damp cloth.

Caring for an oiled surface

We use Osmo Polyx Oil  which is a hard wax oil that is lightly applied to keep the timber looking and feeling as natural as possible.  Our clear oil gives a warm, honey tone whereas our white oil keeps the timber looking closer to its raw state. The wax will be fully hardened after 4 weeks.  Particular care should be taken in the first few weeks after delivery.

To clean on a daily basis simply wipe with a damp cloth and then remove any moisture with a dry cloth.  Wipe off anything that will stain straight away, eg red wine, balsamic vinegar, oil, tea, coffee, alcohol, etc.
Occasionally spills may penetrate the oil and you may need to re-oil.  Make sure the area is dry. Lightly sand the stain along the grain with a fine grade sandpaper until you can no longer see the mark.  You will be removing a thin layer of the wax oil.  Blend in the edges of the stain by lightly sanding the surrounding area.  Apply a thin layer of Osmo Polyx oil (two teaspoons of oil should be enough to cover 1m2) to the sanded area on a soft cloth.  Concentrate on the sanded area and then blend in the edges by wiping the cloth across the surrounding area.  You may need to reapply the oil after 2 hours to provide a match with the existing finish.

Dents and scratches may be sanded out with sandpaper or steamed with heat from an iron applied on top of a damp cloth.  You will notice that it now feels slightly rough where the grain has come out.  Use fine grade sandpaper to lightly sand and ‘de-nib’ the grain.  The sanded area can then be treated as above.
