Sharing the same frame design, the U430 Armchair and U431 Armless Chair were first introduced in 1955 by Jens Risom Inc. We think that they are timeless designs that look just at home in a contemporary setting.  

We make the U430 and U431 with an oiled oak or walnut frame. They will be upholstered in your own choice of fabric. Just place your order and we will contact you directly to discuss your fabric requirements. If you would like to request some samples, please contact the showroom.

Jens Risom trained in Copenhagen under the furniture maker Kaare Klint and his fellow students included Hans Wegner. In 1939, Risom emigrated to the USA where he established Jens Risom Design Inc which grew to become the third largest furniture company in America.

How to Order

You can place your order online but if you would prefer to speak to one of the team to discuss any aspects of your order, please call us on 01488 608020. Please check the delivery information below to see whether you are eligible for free delivery.  If not, then you will not be able to place your order online so please call us for a delivery quote.

We are always happy to chat through timber, finish and fabric choices.  Alternatively e-mail sales@benchmarkfurniture.com or better still, visit us at our showroom and while you are here, we would be delighted to show you around the workshop.

Lead Times

All our pieces are made to order and crafted to the highest quality. We don't cut corners or compromise our standards so please be aware that your order may sometimes take up to 8 weeks. We will e-mail you when we have booked your order into the workshop and give you an estimated delivery date. We will be in  touch again in the weeks prior to delivery.

Delivery

We have our own fleet of vehicles and drivers to ensure safe delivery. Where we can’t deliver ourselves due to distance, we work with partner companies who offe the same high quality service and care.  Your furniture will be carefully blanket wrapped to protect it whilst in transit, delivered into the room of your choice, unwrapped and assembled as required.  Please let us know if you have any access issues.

Authenticity

Each piece of furniture we sell has a mark in the form of a discreetly fixed polished pewter disk that shows that it is an authentic Benchmark original. This is individually numbered and a record of the piece and purchaser is kept in our register.

Peace of Mind

We take pride in all our goods being made to exceptional standards but because things sometimes go wrong, our returns policy states that where a damaged or faulty piece of furniture is delivered, we will do our utmost to rectify the error as quickly as possible. If you are unhappy with your purchase for other reasons, let us know within seven days and we will guarantee a refund providing the item is returned in "as new condition" within 14 days. Unfortunately we are unable to refund shipping, handling or insurance charges, except of course in the case of any errors on our part. Bespoke pieces made to special order cannot be refunded, unless there is a fault with the product.

We are confident that our furniture will stand the test of time and offer a five year guarantee against defective workmanship and materials. However, please note that most of our furniture is made of solid timber, and you should expect it to move slightly in damp or overly dry conditions.

Please note that for pieces that are not made by Benchmark, such as Vienna Chairs and Carl Hansen Chairs, we are only able to offer a one year guarantee against defective workmanship.

Care Instructions for Upholstered Pieces

 

Timber

The  timber has been oiled with a hard wax oil. To clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth and remove any excess moisture with a dry cloth.

Fabric

The covers have been fire retardant treated and we would recommend that only companies experienced in the cleaning of furnishing fabrics are used.  However, they can be spot-dry cleaned for small marks. Avoid bleaching agents and optical whiteners. To remove stains the best advice is to treat immediately and not allow the stain to dry in.  For spills, mop up any excess liquid with a clean cloth, or for dry solids,  scoop up with a spoon.
 
Every fabric will have their own care instructions and if unsure, please check with the manufacturer.  Most stains can be treated with a dry cleaning fluid, upholstery shampoo or clean water. Always work inwards from the edge of the stain to prevent spreading. Do not over wet the fabric but use small amounts of cleaning liquid at a time, blotting between applications. Liquids should never be pushed through the fabric. Continue until the stain has disappeared.

Leather

Avoid using chemical polishes or soap.  Simply wipe with a damp cloth using a mild detergent such as washing up liquid and buff with a clean dry cloth.
