Our fine craftsmanship is evident in the exposed bridle joints of the Cristo.  This is an incredibly comfortable chair with upholstered seat and back. Handmade in oak, we offer the Cristo in either natural or mocha oil finish in a choice of fabrics and leathers.

For the fabric, we have selected our favourite colours of Romo Linara, a hard wearing cotton/linen mix. However, there are lots more colours to choose from so if nothing suits, please call us on 01488 608020 or make an enquiry below.   Alternatively you can select your own fabric. For a truly individual look, a different fabric can be used on the rear of the seat back.  Bespoke leather colours are also available for an additional cost.

Perfectly jointed...

Bridle joints are very similar to a mortise and tenon joint. The difference is in the extra depth of the mortise and extra  length of the tenon resulting in the end end grain of the interlocking pieces being exposed. We think it adds a lovely detail.

VIP status...

We were very proud to make over 200 pieces of furniture for the IOC VIP Hospitality Suite for the 2012 Olympics.   Bringing a little of the City of London to the restaurant area was the Cristo, shown here, smartly upholstered in pinstripe with silk lining.  Click the image if you would like to see more about the project.

Authenticity

Each piece of furniture we sell has a mark in the form of a discreetly fixed polished pewter disk that shows that it is an authentic Benchmark original. This is individually numbered and a record of the piece and purchaser is kept in our register.

Peace of Mind

We take pride in all our goods being made to exceptional standards but because things sometimes go wrong, our returns policy states that where a damaged or faulty piece of furniture is delivered, we will do our utmost to rectify the error as quickly as possible. If you are unhappy with your purchase for other reasons, let us know within seven days and we will guarantee a refund providing the item is returned in "as new condition" within 14 days. Unfortunately we are unable to refund shipping, handling or insurance charges, except of course in the case of any errors on our part. Bespoke pieces made to special order cannot be refunded, unless there is a fault with the product.

We are confident that our furniture will stand the test of time and offer a five year guarantee against defective workmanship and materials. However, please note that most of our furniture is made of solid timber, and you should expect it to move slightly in damp or overly dry conditions.

Please note that for pieces that are not made by Benchmark, such as Vienna Chairs and Carl Hansen Chairs, we are only able to offer a one year guarantee against defective workmanship.

If you would like to chat through the timber, finishes or upholstery options or would like to see samples before you order, please call us on 01488 608020 or e-mail sales@benchmarkfurniture.com

Care guides

Care instructions for Oiled Pieces

Our furniture is very easy to look after, and with a little care, will continue to look beautiful for future generations.  We use Osmo Polyx Oil, a hard wax oil, which keeps the timber looking and feeling as natural as possible whilst providing a level of protection against every day stains and spills.

The choice of oil depends upon the timber.  For oak we offer three choices of oil - a clear oil which gives a warm, honey tone, a white oil which keeps the oak looking natural and counters the natural darkening with age and raw oil which keeps the timber closes to its natural state. For ash, we offer just the white oil as clear oil tends to make it look a little yellow.  Walnut is only offered in clear oil which brings out its rich grain and colour.

The wax will be fully hardened after 4 weeks.  Particular care should be taken in the first few weeks after delivery.

To clean on a daily basis simply wipe the surface with a damp cloth and then remove any moisture with a dry cloth.  Wipe off anything that will stain straight away, eg red wine, balsamic vinegar, oil, tea, coffee, alcohol, etc.
Occasionally spills may penetrate the oil and you may need to re-oil.  Make sure the area is dry. Lightly sand the stain along the grain with a fine grade sandpaper until you can no longer see the mark.  You will be removing a thin layer of the wax oil.  Blend in the edges of the stain by lightly sanding the surrounding area.  Apply a thin layer of Osmo Polyx oil (two teaspoons of oil should be enough to cover 1m2) to the sanded area on a soft cloth.  Concentrate on the sanded area and then blend in the edges by wiping the cloth across the surrounding area.  You may need to reapply the oil after 2 hours to provide a match with the existing finish.

Dents and scratches may be sanded out with sandpaper or steamed with heat from an iron applied on top of a damp cloth.  You will notice that it now feels slightly rough where the grain has come out.  Use fine grade sandpaper to lightly sand and ‘de-nib’ the grain.  The sanded area can then be treated as above.
