Established by Terence Conran and Sean Sutcliffe in 1984 and with an annual turnover in 2007 of £3.7 million, Benchmark is a design led manufacturer of bespoke furniture and specialist woodworking and metalwork. Combining traditional quality with modern technology and a commitment to sustainability, it has a proven track record in the design, manufacture and installation of furniture for offices, public institutions, hotels, bars and restaurants and private homes as well as complex architectural joinery. Benchmark clients include architects, interior designers, fit out companies, retailers and furniture dealers.
Based in converted redundant farm buildings in West Berkshire, the company employs 45 designers and craftsmen and runs an award winning apprentice training programme. On site is a full service design studio and 35,000 square feet of workshops with woodworking, metalworking and upholstery capabilities. Benchmark was the first furniture maker to be awarded the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.
Through the acquisition in January 2007 of Dorset-based workshop Litton Furniture, Benchmark has the expertise to supply furniture and interiors to the luxury market. Founded over forty years ago by renowned cabinetmaker Paul Litton, the company has a skilled team of craftsmen with a reputation for fine cabinet-making, joinery and upholstery skills.
